About Me

In A Few Words

Sukhleep Dhillon is an Auckland-based surface designer and illustrator whose work brings together textile tradition, architectural thinking and commercial design experience.

Raised around cloth and making, Sukhleep’s earliest creative influence was her mother, a PhD professor of Clothing and Textiles. Early exposure to embroidery and textile traditions developed into years of exploring kantha, boro, patchwork and other hand-worked techniques — influences that continue to quietly underpin her contemporary work.

She went on to study architecture for five years before completing a Master of Architecture at the University of Melbourne and working in the field. Architecture shaped a way of thinking that remains central to her design practice today: an understanding of proportion, hierarchy, rhythm, scale and systems, and the belief that every element should have a reason for being there.

After the birth of her son, Sukhleep changed direction to build a creative career alongside family life. She began designing for commercial products through Zazzle, where her work went on to achieve Pro Diamond Seller status.

Surface design brings these different chapters together. Architecture brings structure; textiles bring tactility, memory and story; commercial experience keeps the work connected to product. The result is a contemporary pattern language that feels considered yet characterful, with collections developed to work cohesively across home, textiles and lifestyle.

Now based in Auckland, where her family chose to settle closer to the sea, Sukhleep creates richly considered surface collections for licensing and collaboration — bringing together pattern, illustration and product through a distinctive visual language.
